Why sleep is so important and why we don’t get enough of it:

When we sleep our brains are still working to reenergize the cells of our bodies and remove waste from the brain. When we sleep our brain activity increases to help with retaining memory. By depriving ourselves from sleep , it decreases our ability to pay attention in class and it negatively affects our ability to perform well on exams. (Pilcher. J, 121) When we are deprived of sleep we perform worse on cognitive task. Sleep deprecation also increases fatigue and confusion. (Pilcher. J, 125) College students have poor sleeping habits, drink too much caffeine and sleep in loud environments. (Karana. R, 14) With the advance in technology we tend to be on it all the time whether it be our laptop of phone, it makes out brain feel awake nad it prevents us from getting ready to go to bed.
